Sellout - new artist blog and resource site

Old/new blogger Deborah Fisher has launched a site dedicated to artist's needs.

SELLOUT is a practical blog about an impractical lifestyle.

Artists face all the problems the consumer citizenry faces. We eat and drink and drive and buy things. We need health care; battle 30% credit card interest and stupid little fees; are having a harder time getting a full return on a gently used power tool at Home Depot. We will retire or get sick one day. We hate to admit it, but sometimes we need jobs. And at the same time, we are all trying to pull off a career that makes our parents feel just a little sick with worry.

What does it mean to be an artist in this era of corporate feudalism? We may talk about that. But this blog will focus on what it takes and how to do it better. Less painfully. With more dignity.

SELLOUT - now!

OMG! YES! I just read this post and kept saying "ahuh, ahuh, ahuh" because I totally understand. In my lifetime, I have been a Bohemian artist. I have been poor. I have been hungry. I have wondered where to get money for my kid's diapers. Then, I "sold out" and began teaching. Now years later, there is no contest. I have health insurance, a retirement kitty, and summers off. I still make my art. In fact, I still LOVE being an artist. Sold out? Yeah. I guess I did. However, I just have to admit...shhhhhhh....come close..... I want to whisper....I kind of like it!! I can have my cake and eat ice cream by the gallons if I want to. I never thought there would be a time I could love my life as an artist and still pay my bills. Well, I can do that now because I am a sell out. Oh well.
